SHC men tumble at Embry-Riddle, 101-82

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (November 19, 2021) – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team opened play at the 2021 Bahama House Classic with a 101-82 loss to the hosting Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) Eagles on Friday night at the ICI Center.

The Eagles (5-0) and the Badgers both struggled to find their shooter's touch in the early going as the teams went into the first media timeout with ERAU holding just a 4-2 lead.

ERAU was the first to shake off the rust and cashed in on five 3-pointers to take a 29-15 lead with 7:27 to go before halftime. SHC would trail by 11 points at 41-30 at the intermission.

SHC answered the call in the second half cutting down the lead to 43-40 just two minutes into the period, but 3 minutes later ERAU maintained a 52-46 lead that stretched out to 61-53 at 11:21 and 73-60 at 8:13 remaining.

SHC was led by forward Beril Kabamba with 25 points and guard John Abate with 21 points. Sam Davidson put 13 points in the baskets while David Daniels added 11 points and Kabamba hauled in 12 rebounds. The Badgers shot 44.3% (31-70) from the floor, including 27.6% (8-29) from 3-point distance. SHC lost 15 turnovers to eight steals by ERAU.

ERAU shot a healthy 54% (37-69) from the field including 37% (11-33) from beyond the arc. Four Eagles reached double-digits in scoring paced by Romeo Crouch with 18 points. Embry-Riddle won the rebounding war by a 42-37 margin, but lost 14 turnovers to eight Badger steals.

The Badgers (0-2) will finish play in the Bahama House Classic on Saturday versus the 2nd-ranked Flagler College Saints (2-2) at 5 p.m. (east) in the ICI Center.
