MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team earned a 60-47 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) home victory over the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobrettes on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Thorobrettes (5-13, 2-9 SIAC West) and the Badgers got off to a slow start in the opening quarter of play with SHC holding a 10-6 lead heading to the 2
nd period. KSU rallied to knot the score at 24-24 at halftime, but the Badger defense took over in the third quarter, limiting KSU to just 5 points as Spring Hill went to the final stanza holding a 39-29 advantage.
SHC expanded its lead to 48-34 off a 3-pointer by senior guard
Elise Reilly of Covington, La., at 5:38 remaining and never looked back, holding on for the 60-47 victory.

Tiffany Valentine of Houston, Texas led the Badgers with 19 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
As a team, the Badgers shot 40.7% (22-54) from the floor and 26.3% (5-19) from beyond 3-point distance. SHC lost the ball 15 times against 8 steals by the Thorobrettes defense. The Badgers knocked down 73.3% (11-15) of their free throw opportunities and controlled the boards by a 41-35 margin.
Victoria Blankenship paced the Thorobrettes with 16 points as KSU shot 34.4% (21-61) from the field and 16.7% (2-12) from 3-point range. KSU scored on just 33.3% (3-9) of its free throws and lost 13 turnovers to 6 Badger steals.
The Badgers (7-13, 6-5 SIAC West) will next host the Central State University (CSU) Lady Marauders (7-12, 5-6 SIAC West) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
