MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team suffered a 72-59 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division loss to the Miles College Golden Bears on Monday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Golden Bears (12-3, 7-2 SIAC West) held a 35-27 edge at halftime, but Spring Hill rallied to cut the deficit to 48-45 with 11 minutes left to play. A 19-6 run by Miles over the next five minutes of play made it a 63-47 cushion for the visitors from Birmingham and they never looked back from there.

Christian Brandt of Auburn, Ala. scored 15 points off 5-of-7 shooting from 3-point range while senior forward
Chase Shellman of Louisville, Ky. and senior guard
Dwight Harris of Americus, Ga. each added 11 points to the Badger cause. Harris also added eight rebounds to his numbers.
As a team, SHC shot 40.7% (22-54) from the field and 53.3% (8-15) from 3-point range. The Badgers lost 12 turnovers against 11 steals by the Bears and made 77.8% (7-9) of their free throw attempts. SHC squeaked out a 31-30 edge rebounding for a 6-5 advantage in second-chance points.
Avery Brown paced Miles with 19 points as five Bears reached double digits in scoring. Miles shot 53.6% (30-56) overall and made 40% (8-20) of their shots from beyond the arc. The Bears committed just seven turnovers in the face of five steals by the Badgers. Miles sank 50% (4-8) of their free throw opportunities.
The Badgers (3-15, 2-7 SIAC West) will close out this 3-game home stand with their final cross-divisional match up of the year versus the Fort Valley State University Wildcats (3-14, 1-7 SIAC East) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
