TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team suffered an 85-57 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) loss to the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers on Sunday afternoon at the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.
The West Division-leading Golden Tigers (10-6, 7-1 SIAC West) scored the final seven points of the 1
st half to take a 44-28 halftime lead over SHC, but the Badgers rallied to cut the deficit down to 10-points at 48-38 just four minutes into the 2
nd half.
Tuskegee took control of the contest midway through the period by stretching out a 66-45 lead with less than 10 minutes left to play.
Senior forward
Chase Shellman of Louisville, Ky. scored a team-high 23 points for the second consecutive game for the Badgers while hauling in 9 rebounds.
As a team, SHC shot just 34.5% (19-55) from the field and 26.1% (6-23) from 3-point range. The Badgers lost 20 turnovers against 12 steals by the Tigers, but managed to take a 39-35 edge in rebounding. Spring Hill made just 61.9% (13-21) of their free throw attempts.
James Eads of Tuskegee led all scoring with 26 points as four Tigers reached double-digits in scoring. Tuskegee shot a respectable 52.5% (31-59) overall and made 38.9% (14-36) of their shots from beyond the arc. The Tigers committed 13 turnovers in the face of 4 steals by the Badgers and were successful on only 60% (9-15) of their free throw opportunities.
The Badgers (3-12, 2-5 SIAC West) will visit non-conference and historic Jesuit rival the Loyola University Wolf Pack (13-4) in New Orleans, La. on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in The Den.
