MOBILE, Ala. - Spring Hill College junior Athina Amanor has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). "Athina being named by CoSIDA as a Track and Field Academic All-American is a great tribute to a great young woman.  We talk all the time about wanting everyone to be successful in the classroom and in competition.  What she has accomplished academically speaks for itself.  There were many great student-athletes nominated, but only a small number earn the honor," said track and field coach Craig McVey. "

Amanor, a sprinter, carried a 4.0 grade point average into the spring semester as a pre-med student, majoring in cellular and molecular biology. During her junior season she set the Spring Hill school record in the 100-meter dash (12.25 seconds) with an eighth-place finish at Southern Miss and in the 200-meter dash (25.20) with a runner-up finish at the Montevallo Falcon Classic. She scored 15.25 points at the SIAC Championships this spring and finished in the Top 8 in all 17 of her races during the season, including one first-place finish. In addition to her 100m and 200m times, she set a personal record in the 400-meter (57.76).

In addition to track and field, she also competes on the women's tennis team.

"To achieve what Athina has in only three years is a tribute to her work ethic and the type of person she is," McVey said. "She has been a huge part of our program, setting school records on the track, and was a big factor in our women's team success in our first SIAC Outdoor meet this past spring.  Academically, how can you be better?"
