MOBILE, Ala. - (BRACKET) Spring Hill's softball team will not have to travel far to make its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Regionals, as the Badgers will make the hour-long drive to Pensacola, Fla., to take part in the South 1 Regional hosted by West Florida. First pitch this Thursday is scheduled for 1 p.m.

"We're extremely excited to be going to Pensacola," said SHC head coach Steve Kittrell. "UWF has got an outstanding program. By the time you get to this part of the year, every school that's playing is a really good team and deserves to be here. We're looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity to keep playing at a high level."

The Badgers (30-19) will open up play against No. 2 UWF, the top-seed in the South Region 1 bracket. UWF (47-8) is coming off a victory in the Gulf South Conference tournament to clinch an automatic bid to the tournament, with SHC coming of its first-ever Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship to earn an automatic bid.

The two teams have met on three occasions this season, and while UWF won all three games, each game saw the Badgers perform a little bit better each time. After an 8-0 (5) loss in game one of a doubleheader in Pensacola Feb. 13, the Badgers held a 3-0 lead through four innings in game two before UWF rallied to win, 8-3. UWF would visit Mobile Mar. 20, with the Argonauts taking a 5-0 victory.

Another familiar foe from the 2019 Badgers schedule will be in Pensacola as Valdosta State was selected to the South 1 Region. The Badgers and Blazers played on the opening weekend of the year, with VSU taking a 5-1 win. VSU (35-16) placed fourth in the GSC regular season standings and dropped a, 9-0, decision to UWF in its last contest in the GSC tournament.

Valdosta State is joined in the other opening game of the South Region 1 tournament by the University of Tampa. The Spartans finished the regular season in second place in the Sunshine State Conference with a 22-8 mark and have posted a 32-11 record overall. The SSC does not have a conference tournament.

The first two games of the regional will be at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. this Thursday. The winners of the first two games will play at 1 p.m. Friday, with the losers meeting at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
