Badgers Close Home Slate with Split Against AUM

MOBILE, Ala. -- Spring Hill's softball team wrapped up the home slate with a doubleheader split with Auburn University at Montgomery, falling in game one, 14-0, before rallying to take game two, 4-3, at Murray Field.

The split moved Spring Hill's record to 26-19 overall, with Auburn-Montgomery exiting with a 40-12 mark.

Game One: Auburn Montgomery 14, Spring Hill 0
The Warhawks scored 12 runs in the final two innings to top SHC, 14-0. Delaney Thomas and Aly Fowler had both of the hits for the Badgers in the contest.

The Badgers fell behind 2-0 in the second on a two-run homer by AUM. In the sixth, AUM took advantage of an error, a hit batsman, and three hits to plate five runs (three earned) to stretch the lead to 7-0. In the seventh, three bases loaded walks helped AUM score seven in the frame to seal the victory.

The Badgers threatened at various times through the game, including the third when Randa Day walked and Thomas singled to put two runners on with no one out. However, a fielder's choice, a pop out, and a foul out ended the threat.

Morgan Kramer (4-2) took the loss after allowing six earned runs in 6.1 innings of work.

Game Two: Spring Hill 4, Auburn Montgomery 3
A two-run homer by Hannah Fillmore provided the game-winning runs for Spring Hill as the Badgers defeated Auburn Montgomery, 4-3, to earn the doubleheader sweep.

Trailing 1-0 after an inning of play, the Badgers came back to take the lead with a pair of runs in the second. Carlisle Jamison's double to the gap in left-center brought home pinch runner Lanae Davis to tie the game, 1-1. After a bunt single by Kaycie Saxton put runners on the corners, Kramer's fly ball to right was mishandled. Saxton would be thrown out on what turned into a fielder's choice, but Jamison came home to give SHC the lead, 2-1.

AUM would tie the score in the fifth, but the Badgers would go back ahead in the sixth. After Thomas walked, Fillmore pulled a shot down the line in left for her seventh home run of the year to give the home side a 4-2 lead.

With two out in the seventh, AUM would get a run across and put the tying run on first base. However, Hannah Brenton would finish off the complete game effort by getting a line out to second to end the game and give the Badgers the victory. Brenton improved to 12-5 on the season after allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Badgers can now look forward to their first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship tournament, beginning May 2 in Albany, Ga. SHC will go into the tournament as the top seed out of the West Division.
