Softball Continues Hot Streak

MOBILE, Ala. - Spring Hill continued its recent hot streak Wednesday, steamrolling LeMoyne-Owen College, 18-1, in five innings in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Murray Field.
The victory was highlighted by a stellar performance from redshirt sophomore Hannah Fillmore, who went 5-for-5 and hit for the cycle with a single, two doubles, a triple, a homer, four RBI and four runs scored in the game. The win also finished off a three-game sweep of the Magicians and Spring Hill (22-18, 14-2) has now won its last six straight games over the past two weeks.
With the score tied at 1 after the first inning, Spring Hill broke the game open by scoring eight runs on just three hits - taking advantage of eight walks in the inning - to open up a 9-1 lead after two frames. The Badgers got the bats going in the third, though, scoring three more times on five hits to make it 12-1.
Five more hits in the fourth produced three more runs for Spring Hill in the fourth to put the Badgers up 15-1 and another three runs on four hits in the fifth gave Spring Hill its 18 runs on 19 hits in the romp. Spring Hill has scored a stunning 50 runs in its last four games, all wins shortened due to the run rule.
Eleven different players had hits for the Badgers, led by Fillmore's cycle. Randa Day was 3-for-3 with three RBI, Carmen Byrd had two hits, scored two runs and had an RBI and Cassidy Mehr went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI in the win.
Olivia Brown got the win in the circle for Spring Hill, going three innings and allowing one run on one hit with four strikeouts and two walks. Morgan Kramer worked the final two innings, striking out four of the six batters she faced.
Spring Hill wraps up conference play this weekend with a three-game series against SIAC rival Kentucky State at Murray Field. The series gets under way with a doubleheader Friday and first pitch is scheduled for noon.
