PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – Regular season champion Spring Hill College was well represented among the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Men's Tennis All-Conference honors, including a sweep of the top annual awards.Â
No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles player
Cedric Nitz headlines the 2019 All-SIAC Team as the SIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year. Fellow Badger,
Til Behrendt, was named the Freshman of the Year, and Spring Hill's head coach
John Dotson was named Coach of the Year.Â
The honors were announced Monday and were determined by votes from the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Â
Nitz, the two-time all-conference honoree, secured the No. 1 seed in this year's SIAC Championship after leading the Badgers to an undefeated conference record. Playing primarily at the No. 1 singles spot, Nitz finished 12-9 in singles play and finished with a spotless 10-0 conference record. A native of Germany, Nitz paired with
Kurt Shiell for a nine-match doubles win streak against Division II competition to finish 14-9 on the season and a perfect 11-0 in conference.Â
Â
Til Behrendt, a freshman from Heidelberg, Germany finished with a 7-4 singles record, including a 7-1 conference record. Behrendt paired with teammates
Chris Mines,
Alexander Eric Demel,
Ulf Grosseloh, and
Ricardo Pena to finish with a 9-9 doubles record, going only 8-1 in conference play.
Nitz and Behrendt were joined on the Men's Tennis All-SIAC Singles Team by junior
Ulf Grosseloh, who plays No. 2 singles. SHC swept the doubles honors with pairings of Nitz and
Kurt Shiell, Behrendt and Alex Demel, and Grossaloh with
Ricardo Pena.
Â
Dotson has guided Spring Hill's men and women tennis teams to a 93-101 overall record and a 71-33 conference record since their introduction to Division II. This Detroit, Michigan, native went 24-0 versus conference opponents in the last two seasons in men's competition and is leading his teams to their first chance at a conference title.Â
