Badgers Break Out Bats, Brooms to Sweep Miles

MOBILE, Ala. -- Delaney Thomas went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double, and four RBI as Spring Hill's softball team completed a three-game SIAC West Division sweep of Miles College with a, 10-0 (5), victory at Murray Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Badgers broke through with four runs in the first inning, with all of the runs coming with two already out in the frame. With Thomas on after singling with two out, Hannah Fillmore connected on her fourth home run of the season to put SHC (19-18, 11-2) on the board. One batter later, Aly Fowler doubled, then came home with the aid of two wild pitches to make it 3-0. Carlisle Jamison walked with Fowler still on base, moved to second on a wild pitch, then slipped over to third on a Randa Day single. Jamison would then get home as the Badgers took advantage of a miscue in the field by Miles (6-30, 5-9) to make it 4-0.

In the third, Thomas would be responsible for SHC's fifth run of the game. The sophomore would connect on her team-leading seventh home run of the season to lead off the inning and give the Badgers a 5-0 lead.

In the fourth, the Badgers put the game away and moved the total up to run-rule status. With the bases loaded, Carmen Byrd walked, allowing Day to score and make it 6-0 with only one out in the inning. Up next stepped Thomas, who capped her day at the plate with a bases-clearing double to the fence in center, scoring all three runners and making it 9-0. After a wild pitch, Thomas came home on Fillmore's ground out to third, giving Fillmore three RBI on the game and giving the Badgers 10 runs on the scoreboard.

That would be more than enough support for Hannah Brenton (9-5), who earned her second win in as many days by pitching five shutout innings and allowing just two hits while striking out seven.

The Badgers will be back in action this weekend in SIAC play against LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, Tenn. The series, originally slated for Saturday and Sunday, has been moved up to Friday and Saturday. Game times are to be determined.
