MOBILE, Ala. - Spring Hill College kept its hot streak going Saturday, edging past Blue Mountain College, 4-3, in a non-conference match played at the University of Mobile.
Spring Hill (13-7) has won eight straight matches and brought home a victory despite having to default a singles match.
The Badgers started out the match by winning two of the three doubles encounters. Til Behrendt and Alex Demel were first off the court, beating Zack Harbin and Eduardo Chagas, 6-2, at No. 2. Cedric Nitz and Kurt Shiell matched them at No. 1, knocking off John Jimenez and Juan Silva by an identical 6-2 score. The Toppers (4-7) got a win at No. 3, as David Garcia and Zaen Harbin got by Ulf Grosseloh and Chris Mines, 7-6.
Blue Mountain started off singles with a default win at No. 5 by Juan Vargas over Behrendt to tie the match at 1. Mines gave Spring Hill the lead back by beating Zack Harbin, 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 4 match, but Silva re-tied the match for the Toppers with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Nitz at No. 1.
Grosseloh was next off with a point for the Badgers, winning, 6-4, 7-5 over Garcia at No. 2, but again Blue Mountain got a win, this time from Jimenez at No. 3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, over Demel. That meant the match came down to No. 6 singles, where Shiell posted a solid 6-1, 6-3 win over Dylan Austin to give Spring Hill the victory and extend the Badgers' winning streak.
The Badgers are back in action Sunday, taking on Loyola (La.) at Treasure Oak Country Club in Ocean Springs, Miss. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
