MOBILE, Ala. - Spring Hill College continued its surge Friday afternoon by shutting out Tuskegee, 3-0, in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Murray Field.
The win is the third straight for the Badgers (14-16, 2-2) following a five-game losing streak and gets Spring Hill back to .500 in conference play.
Hannah Brenton (6-5) threw a three-hit shutout in the circle for Spring Hill, striking out five while walking none.
The Badgers did all of the damage in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs on three hits.
Carmen Byrd singled and stole second before
Delaney Thomas singled to put runners on the corners.
Hannah Fillmore singled to bring home the first run and a wild pitch moved Thomas to third and Fillmore to second. After a
Morgan Kramer walk loaded the bases, another wild pitch allowed Thomas to scamper home with the second run and moved the other runners to second and third.
Carlisle Jamison got the other run home on a groundout to give Spring Hill an early three-run lead.
Spring Hill got just one more hit the rest of the way, but Benton made it stand up, as she only allowed four baserunners (three hits, one batter reached by error) in her seven innings of work. Byrd, Thomas, Fillmore and Jamison had a hit apiece for the Badgers in the victory.
CeCe Tennessee was the only Tuskegee (7-19, 5-4) player with more than one hit, going 2-for-3.
Jamea Lyons (4-8) took the loss for the Golden Tigers, allowing three runs (all earned) on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
The teams wrap up their three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch at Murray Field is scheduled for 1
