Spring Hill Completes SIAC Crossover Sweep
JASPER, Ala. -- Delaney Thomas' walk-off three-run home run Sunday afternoon gave Spring Hill its fourth-straight win, 4-1, over Albany State University to start its third day at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Cross over at Memorial Park. The Badgers went on to defeat Benedict College, 11-5 to complete the five-game sweep for a 5-0 start to SIAC action.

Thomas hit .625 (10-of-16) for the weekend with eight runs scored and seven RBI. Hannah Fillmore drove in 10 runs in five games.


GAME 1: Spring Hill 4, Albany State 1

The Badgers left six runners on base through the first six innings, but produced the timely hits when it mattered most. Albany State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the seventh, Cassidy Mehr pinch hit for Tiffany Fairchild and was hit by a pitch, so was Carlisle Jamison to put two on with no outs. Kaycie Saxton singled to load the bases before a wild pitch pushed across the tying run.

After a ground out and strikeout, Thomas came to the plate and hit the three-run shot to right field to win the  game.

Thomas hit 3-for-4 in the game with three RBI. Aly Fowler had two hits.

Hannah Brenton pitched the complete game, allowing one earned run off five hits and no walks. She struck out four.

Aryn McGowan took the loss. She allowed four earned off eight hits and struck out five.


GAME 2: Spring Hill 11, Benedict 5

A nine-run top of the first inning broke the game open for Spring Hill College as it wrapped up the SIAC Crossover with an 11-5 win over Benedict College.

Fillmore drove in the first run with a single to left, followed two batters later with a walk by an RBI walk by Caroline Hart. Fairchild singled in two runs to make it 5-0 after Fillmore scored on a wild pitch. Carmen Byrd drove in one, one scored on an error when Thomas reached, and then Fillmore singled in another two to give her a 2-for-2, three RBI first inning.

Benedict scored one in the bottom of the first and three in the bottom of the fifth to avoid the run rule. Spring Hill added a run in the sixth on a double by Mehr and another in the seventh on a Morgan Kramer sac fly.

Olivia Brown recorded the complete game win, allowing four earned runs, five total, off nine hits and a walk. She struck out three.

Fillmore and Thomas each had two hits.


SATURDAY: Spring Hill 11, Paine 2

Thomas and Fowler each recorded three hits with Fairchild and Fillmore adding two apiece to lead Spring Hill. The Badgers had 14 total hits in four innings at the plate.

Spring Hill put up seven runs in the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff walk by Byrd, RBI single by Elise Caruso and Triple from Thomas. Fillmore doubled to left to make it 3-0 before scoring on a Fillmore single to center. After two walks loaded the bases, Fairchild drew a walk to make it 5-0. Saxton followed with a single to drive in two more.

Three walks and a hit batter (Hart) pushed across another run in the second inning before Fairchild doubled to make it 9-0. A double by Fowler drove in two runs in the third inning, 11-0. Pain scored a pair in the fourth inning.

Julia Waters and Morgan Kramer each struck out five in the circle. Kramer took the win in three innings of work.


NEXT: Spring Hill (11-11, 5-0 SIAC) travels to the University of West Alabama on Tuesday for a doubleheader against West Alabama before returning home Wednesday to host the University of West Florida for a single game at 3 p.m.
