BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A third quarter deficit was too large to overcome Wednesday afternoon, as Spring Hill College lost to Tuskegee University, 72-58, in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals in Bill Harris Arena at Birmingham CrossPlex.
Spring Hill erased an 11-point hole in the second quarter with an 8-0 run by
Ava Verner and 3-pointer by
Katie Krout to trail by three points at halftime, 39-36.
Tiffany Valentine cut it to a one-point game, 39-38, to open the second half.
Tuskegee held the Badgers to eight points in the third quarter. Six of those came in the first three minutes, as the higher-seeded Tigers used an 18-2 run to go up by 20 points, 64-44.
Alexis Carter, who was named the SIAC Defensive Player of the Year, powered Tuskegee with a career-high 32 points, 16 rebounds, six steals and five blocks. Jade Wilson scored 16.
Tiffany Valentine led Spring Hill with 17 points, while Krout narrowly missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. She also had seven assists. Verner finished with 10 points, including 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
Spring Hill concludes its season with a 12-16 overall record.
