Badger women tripped by CAU Panthers, 89-75

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team lost an 89-75 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) decision to the Clark Atlanta University (CAU) Panthers on Monday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
 
SHC led the Panthers (3-8, 2-1 SIAC East) 42-31 at halftime, but CAU outscored the Badgers 30-15 in the 3rd period and 28-18 in the 4th quarter on the way to the victory.
 
The Badgers shot 54.2% (32-59) in the game, including 43.8% (7-16) from beyond the 3-point arc, but lost a striking 26 turnovers to 13 steals by the Panthers. Spring Hill completed 80% (4-5) of their free throws while being out-rebounded 37-33 under the baskets.
 
Senior forward Tiffany Valentine of Houston, Texas had 19 points to lead the Badgers while junior forward Katie Krout of Tuscaloosa hit for 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Senior guard Elise Reilly of Covington, La. added 12 points off four 3-point buckets.
 
Reyana Miller had 24 points and Reagan Jackson put in 21 points for the Panthers as CAU shot 44.7% (34-76) from the field, including 32% (8-25) from 3-point range. The Panthers scored on 61.9% (13-21) of their free throws, but lost just 12 turnovers to eight steals by Spring Hill resulting in a 30-12 advantage in points off turnovers for the visitors. CAU also took a 24-12 margin in second chance points as well as a 48-38 lead in points in the paint.
 
The Badgers (2-8, 1-1 SIAC West) will travel to SIAC newcomer the Savannah State (SSU) Tigers (4-2, 1-2 SIAC East) on Thursday for a 5:30 p.m. (Eastern) contest at Tiger Arena.
