UNO tops Spring Hill 114-58 in exhibition tilt

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team was handed a 114-58 exhibition loss by the NCAA Division I University of New Orleans (UNO) Privateers on Tuesday night at Lakefront Arena.
 
UNO (1-0) started their season opener hot, racing out to a 52-29 lead at the half and a 63-35 advantage by the first media timeout of the second half.
 
Sophomore guard Jordan McIlwain of Atlanta, Ga., scored 16 points and senior guard Gresyn Rogers of Casa Grande, Ariz., added 13 points to pace the Badgers offense while senior forward Chase Shellman of Louisville, Ky., hauled in eight rebounds. SHC shot 36.5% (23-63) from the field and 13.6% (3-22) from 3-point range. The Badgers suffered 25 turnovers against 11 steals by the Privateers and were out-rebounded 41-32 under the boards. At the free throw line, SHC made 60% (9-15) of their foul shots.
 
Bryson Robinson of the Privateers had 22 points to lead six Privateers who reached double-digit scoring as UNO shot 63.1% (41-65) from the floor and 30.8% (4-13) from 3-point distance while losing 10 turnovers to three Badger steals. The Privateers also completed 82.4% (28-34) of their free throw opportunities.
 
The Badgers open regular season play at home on Friday night at 8 p.m. when they host the Union University Bulldogs in the annual Gulf South Conference (GSC)/Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Challenge at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. Shorter University and Lane College will begin the festivities in a 6 p.m. tipoff.
