MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball picked up their first win of the season with a 72-56 non-conference victory over the University of West Florida (UWF) Argonauts at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Tuesday night.
SHC grabbed an early 24-9 lead after the first 10 minutes of play and expanded the deficit of the Lady Argos (2-2) to 40-21 at the intermission.
The Badgers shot 53.2% (25-47) in the game, including 30% (6-20) from beyond the 3-point arc, but lost 20 turnovers to 13 steals by the Lady Argos. Spring Hill completed 84.2% (16-19) of their free throws and commanded the rebounding with a 24-25 advantage.
Senior forward
Tiffany Valentine of Houston, Texas had 21 points with 10 rebounds to lead the Badgers in both categories.
Charlotte Ellmore had 21 points as three Lady Argos scored in double digits. West Florida shot 39.2% (20-51) from the field, including 25% (5-20) from 3-point range. The Lady Argos scored on 61.1% (11-18) of their free throws and lost 18 turnovers to 8 steals by Spring Hill.
The Badgers (1-5) will travel to Albany, Ga., this weekend to open play in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) at the Albany State University (ASU) Golden Rams (0-3) beginning at 1 p.m. (eastern) in The Arena at West Campus.
