Jags too much for Badgers in exhibition play, 98-72

MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team suffered a 98-72 exhibition loss to the NCAA Division I member University of South Alabama (USA) Jaguars at the USA Mitchell Center on Tuesday night.
 
The Jaguars (3-2) held a 12-point 49-37 advantage over the Badgers at halftime, but could not pull away from the pesky foes from down Old Shell Road until late in the game's final minutes when they built a 31-point bulge with 2 minutes remaining.
 
Sophomore guard Jordan McIlwain of Atlanta, Ga. scored 21 points to pace the Badgers while senior forward Chase Shellman of Louisville, Ky. contributed 10 points with 5 assists and senior guard Dwight Harris from Americus, Ga. put in 13 points for the Badgers.
 
SHC shot 45.2% (28-62) from the field and 31.6% (6-19) from 3-point range. The Badgers hurt themselves with 17 turnovers against 7 steals by the Jaguars while falling 40-35 in the rebounding battle. Spring Hill also completed just 57.1% (10-18) of their free throw attempts.
 
Josh Ajayi had 21 points with 10 rebounds and Tyrekeas Locure added 20 as the Jaguars shot 50.7% (34-67) from the floor and 43.3% (13-30) from 3-point distance while losing 11 turnovers to 6 steals by the Badgers. USA put home 70.8% (17-24) of their free throw opportunities.
 
The Badgers (1-3) next travel to Albany, Ga. this weekend to open Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play with a contest versus the Albany State University (ASU) Golden Rams (1-3) in The Arena at West Campus at 3 p.m. (eastern).
