DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team opened play at the Daytona Mitsubishi/Kia Shootout on Friday night with a 109-76 loss to the host Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) Eagles at the ICI Center.
The Eagles (4-0) held a commanding 63-35 lead at the intermission and rarely let the Badgers get much closer in the second period.
Freshman forward
Sage McKenna of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. scored 17 points off the bench for Spring Hill as SHC shot 31% (23-75) from the field and 20% (4-20) from 3-point range. The Badgers suffered 14 turnovers against 9 steals by the Eagles while also trailing in rebounding 53-41. SHC knocked down 79% (26-33) of its free throw attempts.
Five Eagles reached double-digits in scoring paced by Elijah Jenkins who led all scorers with 20 points. The Eagles shot 51% (39-76) from the floor and 45% (18-40) from 3-point distance while losing 14 turnovers to 8 steals by the Badgers. ERAU completed 81% (13-16) of their free throw opportunities.
The Badgers (0-3) will remain in Daytona Beach overnight to face the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Tarzans (0-2) at the ICI Center at 5 p.m. (eastern) in the final day of the Daytona Mitsubishi/Kia Shootout.
