Badgers fall at Central State, 63-59
WILBERFORCE, Ohio. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team accepted a 63-59 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West Division loss to the Central State University (CSU) Marauders on Monday night at Beacom/Lewis Gym.
 
After taking a 21-5 lead at the 11:38 mark of the first half, SHC trailed 28-27 with 2:31 remaining in the period. A layup by William Loyd would send the Badgers into halftime with a 29-28 advantage.
 
Central State would build out a 58-52 lead with 2:12 remaining in the game and maintain a 59-53 cushion with 49 seconds left to play.
 
Loyd scored 16 points with 16 rebounds to lead the Badgers while Chase Shellman added 10 points to the SHC scorebook and junior forward Brandon Fischer put 11 points in the buckets. SHC shot 42.9% (24-56) from the field and 31.3% (5-16) from 3-point range. The Badgers suffered 11 turnovers against 10 steals by the Marauders, but controlled the boards by a 40-38 margin in rebounding. At the free throw line, SHC made just 54.5% (6-11) of their foul shots.
 
Chris Scott of the Marauders (9-14, 7-8 SIAC West) had 12 points as CSU shot 35.9% (23-64) from the floor and 24.1% (7-29) from 3-point distance while losing nine turnovers to four Badger steals. The Marauders knocked down 52.6% (10-19) of their free throw opportunities.
 
The Badgers (9-15, 6-9 SIAC West) return home to face the Paine College (PC) Lions (4-17, 3-11 SIAC East) beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
