MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team opened its Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) schedule with a 7-1 victory over the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobretts at Murray Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Thorobretts (2-3, 0-1 SIAC West) took a 1-0 lead in the 3
rd inning after two Badger errors on a sacrifice bunt attempt allowed a run to scamper in from 2
nd base. SHC answered back with a sacrifice fly by catcher
Aly Fowler to knot the score at 1-1 in the 4
th frame.

Delaney Thomas sparked a three-run outburst by the Badgers in the 5th inning to give SHC a 4-1 lead. Fowler then capped the day in the 7
th inning with a two-out bases-loaded double to right-center that cleared the bases.
Hannah Brenton (3-1) went the distance in the circle scattering four hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. Chante Thome (0-1) took the loss in 4.2 innings with seven hits, no walks and one strikeout.
The Badger top-of-the-order in Vosloh, Johnson and Thomas each had a pair of hits for SHC while centerfielder Alysha Sakamura had a double and run-scored for KSU.
The Badgers (3-3, 1-0 SIAC West) and the Thorobretts will meet again in a doubleheader at Murray Field on Sunday at 12 p.m.
