Spring Hill pushes past Mobile, 74-73

MOBILE, Ala. – After trailing the first 20 minutes of action, Spring Hill College fought back to hand crosstown rival University of Mobile its first loss of the season, 74-73, Saturday afternoon, Nov. 17, in the Arthur Outlaw Recreation Center.

The win is Spring Hill's second-straight and 33rd overall in the 31-year rivalry.

Mobile (2-1) opened the game with an 8-0 lead. The Rams stayed in front for the entire first half, leading by as many as a dozen, 36-24, but Spring Hill cut the margin down to four points, 40-36, at halftime.

Justin Allison led Spring Hill's charge off the bench, hitting a 3 and layup to start a 12-4 run to close the first half. The freshman led all players with 19 points in the game.

Andrew Dotson pushed Spring Hill in front, 41-40, to open the second half with a 3 and layup. It was the first of 15 lead changes in the next 16 minutes.

Greyson Rogers, who scored 17 points in the game, broke a 62-62, followed by 3 points each from Allison and Jordan McIlwain to give Spring Hill its' largest lead of the day, 70-65. Mobile fought back for a  71-70 lead, but Jared Holland knocked down a pair of free throws with 3:19 to play to regain the lead. Rogers later hit a layup to cushion the lead, 74-71, just enough to secure the win.

McIlwain and Holland followed Allison and Rogers' lead with 11 and nine points, respectively.

Tim Collins led four Mobile players in double figures, followed by Will Stanford (14), Tony-Toni Wright (13) and Darvin Jones (12).

Spring Hill (2-2) will travel to the University of West Florida (2-2) on Tuesday, Nov. 20 for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. Spring Hill and Mobile will meet again Dec. 8.
