JACKSON, Tenn. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team suffered a 66-64 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division road loss to the Lane College (LC) Dragons on Saturday evening at J.F. Lane Gymnasium.
SHC held a 64-62 lead with 45 seconds to play, but two consecutive steals and fast break layups by the Dragons put the Badgers down 66-64 with 5.6 seconds left on the clock. Coming out of a timeout, a 3-point attempt by
Gresyn Rogers was blocked, but rebounded by
William Loyd who launched a long attempt that came up just short as time expired.
Brandon Fischer led the Badgers with 16 points and 11 rebounds while
Walter Massey dropped in 12 and Loyd added 10 points. Overall, SHC shot an even 50% (24-48) from the field and 28.6% (4-14) from 3-point range. The Badgers suffered 15 turnovers against eight steals by Lane, but won the rebounding war 42-25. At the charity stripe, SHC made only 53.8% (7-13) of their free throw attempts.
Kendarius Ash paced the Dragons (6-9, 4-6 SIAC West) with 26 points as Lane shot 38.5% (25-65) from the floor and 34.6% (9-26) from 3-point distance while losing just two turnovers to no steals by the Badgers. The Dragons shot 70.6% (12-17) at the free throw line.
The Badgers (4-12, 2-6 SIAC West) will finish out their current four-game, two-week road trip on Monday night with a visit to Memphis when they face the LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) Magicians (4-10, 1-8 SIAC West) beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Bruce Hall Gymnasium.
