Softball closes 2017 with home DH split versus AUM
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team closed out the 2017 season by splitting result in a non-conference double header with the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks after winning the opening game 1-0, but falling 5-0 in the nightcap on Friday afternoon at Murray Field.
 
Spring Hill used a leadoff triple by shortstop Carmen Byrd and a sacrifice squeeze bunt by catcher Kali Clement that brought in center fielder Jenna Charnock to take a 1-0 lead over the Warhawks (22-17) in the 4th inning of the opener and sophomore Danielle Clark (21-9) made it stand up in a complete-game shutout victory. Clark allowed just two hits and two walks with five strike outs while Taylor Tiffany (7-5) took the one-hit loss with seven walks and four strike outs.
 
Freshman Baylie Doiron (6-3) took the loss for SHC in 1.1 innings in Game 2 with four hits, two walks and no strike outs before giving way to Clark who returned to finish the next 5.2 innings with one hit, two walks and no strike outs. Chanel Newcomer (6-5) earned the shut out for AUM with four hits and no walks allowed as well as two strike outs.
 
At the plate on the day, AUM was led by center fielder Amy Persinger and short stop Kaylin Finch with two hits each while right fielder Rachel Ragland tallied a double and sacrifice fly for three RBI in the second game. Byrd paced the Badgers with two hits.
 
Spring Hill finished the 2017 season with a 33-16 overall record including a 17-2 mark in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).
