SHC finishes SIAC Crossover with 6-3 victory
Box Score JASPER, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team finished play at a soggy final day of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Divisional Crossover Tournament at Memorial Park with a 6-3 victory over the Clark Atlanta University (CAU) Panthers after the day's earlier game versus Albany State University was canceled due to weather.

The Badgers bounced out to a 6-0 lead on the Panthers (11-14, 7-2 SIAC) after sophomore catcher Kali Clement sent a two-run line drive homer out of the park for her ninth 'round tripper of the year in the 1st inning and a four-run 3rd inning highlighted by first baseman Madeline Burchell's two-run double to deep center to plate designated player Sarah Johnson who had earlier reach on a double to center of her own and second baseman Bayleigh Anders who had reached on a single to left.

CAU fought back in the 4th inning when 2nd baseman Chase Gray-Still connected for a three-run homer to make it a 6-3 game. The Panthers would later threaten again in the 6th inning when consecutive one-out hits put runners at 1st and 2nd and a solid line drive to center appeared to load the bases, but Badger center fielder Jenna Charnock threw a laser strike to 3rd base where Rene Kausin did her past impression of a first baseman to make the catch and cut down the lead runner. Sophomore Danielle Clark (15-6) then struck out the final batter of the frame along with two more in the 7th inning to secure the win.

Clark allowed six hits with two walks and seven strike outs while Panther starter Jessica Vason was chased with no outs in the 3rd inning after five hits, five walks and no strike outs.

Before the game, Charnock was named to the 2017 SIAC All-Crossover Team while during the game Clement slapped around three hits to wind up just a triple away from the cycle.

Spring Hill (23-9, 11-0 SIAC) next visits the University of West Florida Argonauts (17-8) for a non-conference double header on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
