"We are very proud of our program and the performance we were able to put on this weekend," SHC Coach Shawn Taylor said following the matches. "We started
with a 3-2 thriller versus ULM where we had four of our five matches go to a third set. We were finally able to get a win at the No. 1 spot. Seuzeneau and Vujnovich
have been battling and found themselves on the short end recently, but today they dug deep and came back to beat a talented and experienced team. The match
was notched at 2-2 and came down to the No. 3 court where Bilotti and Senft came up big in three exciting sets.
"We had a quick turnaround before stepping on the court vs UNO and we were pushed to the max again," said Taylor. "We felt very fortunate to come away with the
3-2 victory and you could tell the previous match had taken a lot out of us, but the ladies dug deep enough to pull it out. We finished out the day and the tournament
versus a very good Tulane squad and while they brought out some quality play from us, we came up short.
"The win against ULM was huge for us," Taylor said in summary. "They are an established program that has been competing on the beach side since the first year it
was offered as a collegiate sport. We are thankful for the teams that committed to coming and playing in our first-ever tournament and we hope to make it an annual
event. We are also in incredibly grateful to the City of Gulf Shores for allowing us to host our event, the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Sports Commission who
helped with the logistics of pulling this tournament off, Dave Culpepper for providing us with first rate courts to play on, our players that pitched in to help keep score
and do all the little things necessary, and all the fans that came out to support us. We braved the elements and showed the volleyball community that Spring Hill
College can put on a first rate event that competitors and fans can enjoy."
The Badgers (4-6) will next play at the Tiger Beach Challenge hosted by LSU at Mango's Beach Volleyball Club in Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday beginning with Florida
International University at 10 a.m.
