Badgers can't stop Blazers, 4-2
Box Score GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team finished play in the 2017 NCAA DII Gulf Coast Invitational with a 4-2 loss to the Valdosta State University (VSU) Blazers at the Sportsplex on Sunday afternoon.

SHC broke on top 1-0 in the 1st inning with a sacrifice fly to deep right by sophomore catcher Kali Clement that brought in Carmen Byrd all the way from 2nd base, but VSU tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd inning off a bases-loaded walk by shortstop Jessica Mohl.

The Blazers broke the game open with four runs in the 4th inning when Mohr drove a 2-run triple into the corner of left field and was then brought home by a single to left by 3rd baseman Chelsea Canara.

Spring Hill rallied for a run in the 7th frame when centerfielder Jenna Charnock plated pinch hitter Katelyn Wilson with a 2-out single up the middle, but a fly out to center would end the Badger threat.

At the plate, Byrd had two hits for Spring Hill and Canara had a pair of safeties for the Blazers. Danielle Clark took the loss allowing five hits, with five walks and six strike outs while Kasie Johnson was the winner with eight hits, a walk and a strike out by the Badgers.

Spring Hill (1-3) will next host the University of Mobile Lady Rams in a non-conference doubleheader at Murray Field on Wednesday beginning at noon.
