Lady Marauders march past Badgers in final minutes, 76-70
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team suffered a 76-70 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) loss to the Central State University (CSU) Lady Marauders at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.
 
The West Division-leading Lady Marauders (14-4, 9-2 SIAC West) trailed the Badgers by as much as 12 points in the 2nd quarter, but rallied to cut the deficit to 54-48 heading into the final 10 minutes of play. Two free throws by Falon Edwards of CSU tied the game at 56-56 with 6:31 on left on the clock and a layup at 5:36 by Ghameerah McCullers gave the Lady Marauders their first lead since the 1:15 mark of 1st quarter.
 
Spring Hill bounced back from an 8-point hole at 4:02 to climb back within 1 point at 68-67 with 39 seconds left, but a steal by Brianye' Copeland with 23 seconds left lead to two free throws by the visitors from Wilberforce, Ohio. CSU would go on to sink seven of their final eight free throws over the final 23 seconds to secure the win.
 
Junior guard Jewel Hill put 23 points into buckets for Spring Hill while freshman guard Elise Reilly added 22 points. The Badgers shot 50% (27-54) from the floor including 57.1% (4-7) from 3-point land. SHC hurt themselves with 34 turnovers against 19 steals by CSU, but earned a 37-30 advantage in rebounding with senior forward Camry Johnson hauling in a game-high 11 boards.
 
The Lady Marauders were 42.9% (24-56) overall and 23.1% (3-13) from 3-point distance. CSU lost 22 turnovers to 14 SHC steals as Sierra Harley scored 18 points to pace four Marauders who reached double-digits in scoring.
 
Spring Hill (11-9, 6-5 SIAC West) next hosts SIAC West Division foes the Kentucky State University (KSU) Lady Thorobreds (8-10, 5-5 SIAC West) on Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
