Softball nipped twice at NCAA Division II GCI Day 2
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team lost two one-run non-conference decisions on Saturday in the second day of the of the 2017 NCAA DII Gulf Coast Invitational at the SportsPlex versus preseason-ranked No. 1 and defending National Champions the University of North Alabama in a heart-breaking 5-4 score and then to the Barry University Buccaneers in a 9-8 verdict.
 
UNA (2-1) used a lead-off walk-off home run in the bottom of the 7th inning to take home the victory after the Badgers has rallied to knot the game at 4-4 in the top of the frame with a two-run double to right center by sophomore catcher Kali Clement.
 
The Badgers trailed Barry (2-1) 9-4 heading into the top of the 7th inning, but rallied to score four runs and put the tying and winning runs at 2nd and 3rd bases with one out before Barry stopped the bleeding with a pop out to shortstop and a fly out to centerfield.
 
On the day, centerfielder Jenna Charnock collected four hits with two RBI, Clement had three hits with two RBI, Aly Fowler added three hits and Sarah Johnson had three hits and four RBI.
 
Danielle Clark (1-1) took the loss in the opening game with seven hits allowed two walks and three strike outs. Katelyn Wilson (0-1) took the loss in the nightcap allowing just one hit in three innings, but handing out six walks with just one strike out.
 
Spring Hill (1-2) will finish play at the NCAA Division II GCI on Sunday versus Valdosta State University at 2 p.m.
