Box Score WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team lost a 62-58 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division verdict to the Central State University (CSU) Marauders at Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
The Marauders (10-17, 6-10 SIAC West) led 39-24 at halftime, but the Badgers rallied back to take a 42-40 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the game. With one minute left and the game tied 58-58, Keilan Blanks of CSU drained a go-ahead 3-point bucket and SHC would miss a game tying attempt on the other end of the floor with four seconds left as the Marauders held on for the win.
Walter Massey and
Brandon Fischer led the Badgers with 14 points each
Shawn Moore added 11 off the bench and
Chase Shellman pitched in 10 points. Fischer also hauled in 10 rebounds for a double-double on the night. SHC lost 16 turnovers to nine CSU steals and lost the rebounding war 39-36. From the floor, the Badgers shot 37.3% (19-51) overall and 26.7% (4-15) from 3-point range. Missed free throws also hurt the Badgers as SHC knocked down just 66.7% (16-24) from the charity stripe.
CSU shot 35.1% (20-57) from the field and 30.8% (8-26) from 3-point range while fumbling away 15 turnovers to a season-high 10 steals by the Badgers. Blanks led all scorers with 24 points while Markese McGuire added 18 points for the Marauders.
The Badgers (7-19, 6-9 SIAC West) finish this three-game road trip on Monday in Frankfort, Ky., versus the Kentucky State University (KSU) Thorobreds (9-14, 7-8 SIAC West) on Saturday at the EXUM Center beginning at 7:30 p.m. (east)
