Badger softball splits DH with Choctaws
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team split a non-conference doubleheader versus the Mississippi College Choctaws by taking the first game 8-0 in six innings before falling 3-2 in the nightcap on Wednesday afternoon at Murray Field.
 
Spring Hill jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Choctaws (6-5) in the 1st inning of the opening game and added three more runs in the 3rd frame before tacking on single runs in the 5th and 6th innings to earn a Mercy Rule victory. Pitcher Danielle Clark (6-2) went the distance allowing just four hits with no walks and a strike out.
 
The second game saw SHC grab a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning off a two-run home run by sophomore catcher Kali Clement, but then the lead evaporated with a two-RBI double by Choctaw third baseman Kristen Qualls that was followed on the next pitch with a solo home run down the left field line by designated player Makenzie Nieto.
 
Katelyn Wilson (2-2) was saddled with the loss in five innings with four hits, two walks and three strike outs.
 
Seven Badgers enjoyed multiple hit afternoons with center fielder Jenna Charnock and left fielder Savannah Woodruff each collecting four hits. Clement finished with two hits, four runs scored and three RBI.
 
Spring Hill (8-4) will open play in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) portion of their schedule this weekend at home versus the Thorobrettes of Kentucky State University beginning with a noon doubleheader on Saturday and concluding with a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
