Badger softball sweeps CBU, AUM
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team shut out the Christian Brothers University (CBU) Buccaneers 5-0 and downed the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks 7-4 at the AUM Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon.
 
In the 6th inning of the opening game, pitcher Katelyn Wilson helped her own cause with a sacrifice fly to bring in catcher Kali Clement from 3rd base for the game's first run. Two batters later, SHC benefited from an infield error by the Buccaneers with two outs to expand the lead to 2-0. Shortstop Carmen Byrd then took advantage of the situation with an RBI-single up the middle as the Badger lead grew to 3-0.
 
Third baseman Rene Kausin would continue the Badger barrage with a two-run single over the bag at 1st base before CBU could stop the bleeding with a fly out to center.
 
Wilson (2-1) earned the shutout victory with four hits, three walks and eight strike outs while Byrd was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Clement added two hits with a run scored for Spring Hill.
 
In the final game of the tournament, the Warhawks (4-4) scored first with a run-scoring double down the left field line in the bottom of the 1st inning, but the Badgers answered back in the top of the 2nd inning with an RBI-double by designated player Bayleigh Doiron.
 
AUM reclaimed a 2-1 advantage in the 3rd inning with a single to center that scored a run from 3rd base with two outs., but SHC once again answered back to tie the game 2-2 when center fielder Jenna Charnock scampered home on a wild pitch.
 
SHC broke the game open in the top of the 7th with a wild five-run outburst highlighted by Savannah Woodruff's double that scored Kausin to put the Badgers in front 3-2. AUm scored twice in the bottom of the inning, but Danielle Clark would nail down the complete-game victory with eight hits allowed, five walks and four strike outs.
 
Spring Hill (7-3) will host the Mississippi College Choctaws (5-3) in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at Murray Field beginning at noon.
