Softball picks up two wins in Montgomery to hand Sellers-Cook 300th victory
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team took a pair of non-conference games versus the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks and the Christian Brothers University (CBU) Buccaneers at the AUM Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon to hand head coach Alison Sellers-Cook her 300th career victory in her 12th season at the helm of the Badgers. SHC earned a 3-2 victory over host AUM in the opening contest and then survived a 10-8 slugfest versus CBU.

In the first game, the Badgers jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Warhawks (2-3) in the 1st inning with a perfectly executed sacrifice squeeze bunt by Madeline Burchell to bring in leadoff hitter Jenna Charnock followed by an AUM wild pitch that scored a scampering Savannah Woodruff. AUM would later answer back with single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to tie the game at 2-2.

Charnock put the Badgers back up 3-2 in the top of the 6th inning with a double to center field that brought in pinch runner Brooke Vosloh from 2nd base with two outs. AUM would put the tying run at 2nd base with one out in the bottom of the 7th inning, but a high pop out to right was followed by a hard line drive out to left as SHC held on for the 3-2 victory.

Katelyn Wilson (1-1) picked up the win in relief of Danielle Clark in three innings of work with no hits, two walks and two strike outs. Channel Newcomer took the loss in relief in 3.1 innings with two hits and a walk allowed with two strike outs.

In the afternoon contest with the Buccaneers (2-3) the Badgers fell down 3-0 in the 1st inning, but Burchell got a run back in the bottom of the inning with a single up the middle to score left fielder Sarah Johnson from 2nd base. Designated played Baylie Doiron then tied the score at 3-3 with a two-run single to left.

CBU put two more runs on the board in the top of the 2nd inning, but the hit parade for the Badgers continued in the bottom of the frame when a bases-loaded infield error by CBU tied the score at 5-5. Another successful sacrifice squeeze was followed by a run scoring single by Burchell to put the Badgers up 7-5 only two innings into the game. SHC put three more runs on the board in the 3rd inning as the Badger cushion grew to 10-5 in a frame highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Randi DeArmitt.

The Bucs made things interesting in the top of the 7th inning with a three-run double, but Clark took the victory in 5.2 innings of relief with four hits, four walks and three strike outs.

At the plate, Charnock had four hits with a double, an RBI and two runs scored on the day while Wilson had three hits with a double and two runs scored to highlight six Badger batters with multiple hits.

Spring Hill (5-3) will face CBU again on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. followed by a rematch with the Warhawks at 4 p.m. at the AUM Softball Complex.
