Box Score ALBANY, Ga. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team rallied in the final seconds to take a thrilling 66-65 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) road victory away from the Albany State University (ASU) Golden Rams at HPER Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Rams (7-8, 2-3 SIAC East) lead for the entirety of the 2
nd half including a 65-62 advantage with 17.8 seconds remaining, but the Badgers made it a 65-64 score with a put-back tip in by freshman
William Loyd off a missed 3-point attempt from the left corner by
Brandon Fischer at 11 seconds. A tie-up off the in-bounds gave ASU the ball back and, following a timeout, the Golden Rams attempted a length of the court pass that sailed out of bounds, giving SHC the ball under its own goal. Fischer accepted the in-bounds pass in the middle of the key and sent a buzzer-beating, left-handed hook shot toward the rim. The ball hit the back iron, bounced high into the air and then fell straight through the net for the game-winning points.
Fischer put 16 points in the hoops to lead the Badgers as Loyd,
Walter Massey, and
Shawn Moore each contributed 10 points to the victory. Fischer and Massey also recorded double-doubles with 11 and 10 rebounds respectively. The Badgers shot 40% (22-55) from the floor and 7.7% (1-13) from 3-point range. SHC out-rebounded the Golden Rams 46-30, but gave away 19 turnovers to 10 steals by ASU while the Golden Rams lost 12 turnovers to five Badger steals.
ASU was successful on 36.8% (25-71) of their attempts including 27.8% (5-18) of their 3-point shots. Michael Green scored 17 points and Donvontay Ward added 13 points.
The Badgers (3-11, 2-1 SIAC West) will next travel to Tuskegee, Ala., on Thursday to face the Tuskegee University (ASU) Golden Tigers (1-12, 0-4 SIAC West) at 7:30 p.m. in the General Daniel "Chappie" James Center for Aerospace Science and Health Education.
