Badgers fend off late Magicians rally, 87-82
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team had to fend off a late rally by the visiting LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) Magicians to secure an 87-82 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division victory in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Monday night.

The Magicians (4-15, 4-6 SIAC West) trailed the Badgers 45-27 at halftime and fell down by as much as 24-points at 67-43 with 9:12 left in the game, but rallied to make the Badgers sweat in the final minute.

With 54 seconds remaining, SHC held an 82-70 cushion only to see the lead evaporate down to 84-79 with 13 seconds left on the clock. Freshman Gresyn Rogers made 1-of-2 free throws to make it an 85-79 advantage for the Badgers with six seconds showing, but Aric Bady of LOC knocked down three free throws with 1 second left to pull the Magicians to within 85-82. Sophomore Chase Shellman found Rogers with the inbounds pass under heavy pressure from the LOC defense and Rogers would ice the game with two free throws with .3 seconds left in the game.

Rogers and junior guard Jack Morrissey each put 19 points on the board for SHC while Shellman and freshman William Loyd both added 16 points to the Badger totals. SHC shot an impressive 60.4% (29-48) from the floor including an even 50% (8-16) from 3-point distance. Turnovers continued to be an issue for Spring Hill as the Badgers lost 19 turnovers to eight steals by LOC, but they helped themselves with a 36-26 victory in rebounding.

LOC shot 42.4% (25-59) from the field and 36.0% (9-25) from 3-point range while fumbling away 10 turnovers to just two Badger steals. Daron Maston poured in a game-high 27 points while Martez Briggs added 11 points and Aston Morton had 10 points.

The Badgers (5-17, 4-7 SIAC West) next host SIAC West Division foes the Central State University Marauders (7-13, 4-6 SIAC West) at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
