SHC softball wins two more at GCI Day 2
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team earned two one-run victories at the Gulf Coast Invitational (GCI) Tournament at the Sportsplex on Saturday by defeating Brenau University 2-1 and Martin Methodist College (MMC) 3-2 in nine innings.

Badger starter Caroline Sagrera (7-6) struck out 12 batters and held off a late-innings rally in the opener against the Brenau Golden Tigers (11-6) as first baseman Madeline Burchell rapped a two-RBI single to left field in the 1st inning.

Sagrera picked up her second win of the day in relief of freshman Danielle Clark by taking the circle against the MMC RedHawks (14-5) with one out in the 4th inning. The Badgers rallied to tie the game in the top of the 6th inning as Burchell scored via an infield grounder by second baseman Savannah Folse. The two teams traded runs in the 8th inning, but Spring Hill went ahead for good in the 9th frame when third baseman Rene Kausin singled in pinch runner Abigail Solomon from 3rd base with one out.

Burchell had three hits and three RBI on the day and right fielder Katelyn Wilson enjoyed a three-hit afternoon.

Spring Hill (12-9) will begin bracket play in the GCI in Gulf Shores on Sunday at 11 a.m. versus the Campbellsville University Tigers (9-4).
