Softball goes 2-2 at NCAA DII Gulf Coast Invitational
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team split results over the weekend at the NCAA Division II Gulf Coast Invitational at the Sportsplex. The Badgers opened the event on Friday with a 4-0 victory over Flagler College then decimated Lindenwood 18-2 in 6 innings before suffering a 6-1 loss to UAH and a 5-3 loss at the hands of Preseason No. 1 the University of North Georgia.

The Badgers (2-3) scored all four runs of the opening ballgame in the 1st inning as senior pitcher Caroline Sagrera went five innings with just one hit surrendered and eight strikeouts. Freshman Danielle Clark closed the game with two good innings that include one hit allowed and a strikeout. Senior second baseman Lauren Stewart collected a double and a sacrifice fly at the plate.

Versus Lindenwood, the Badgers broke open a 1-1 tie with seven runs in the 5th inning and then tacked on a 10-run 6th frame to cruise to the 18-2 win. Clark went the distance with seven hits, three walks and five strikeouts for her collegiate start, win and complete game. Every Badger starter collected at least one hit with five players enjoying multiple-hit nights. Junior Mary Glass had three hits with a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Carmen Byrd had two hits with a triple and two RBI.

UAH turned a 3-1 lead into a 6-1 victory with a 3-run 6th inning as Sagrera (1-3) suffered a complete-game loss that included six hits, five walks and four strikeouts. Glass earned a hit and an RBI.

The tournament's final game for SHC saw North Georgia score four runs off Sagrera in the 2nd inning as Clark finished the final four innings for SHC in a 5-3 loss. Sagrera issued four hits and two walks while Clark allowed one hit with two walks and seven strikeouts. Byrd, junior centerfielder Jenna Charnock and sophomore third baseman Rene Kausin each had two hits with Byrd collecting her second triple in less than 24 hours.

Spring Hill now travels to face the Florida Tech Panthers (5-2) on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Melbourne, Fla.
