Spring Hill rally falls short versus LeMoyne-Owen, 77-75
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team suffered a 77-75 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) home loss to the LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) Magicians on Monday night despite a furious last minute rally that came up just short of success.

The Magicians (11-14, 8-8 SIAC West) held a 38-33 lead at halftime and built out as much as a 14-point advantage at 59-45 with 10:18 left in the game. Spring Hill still trailed 73-63 with just 50 seconds on the clock, but freshman guard Jared Holland would make a 3-point shot at 41 seconds and senior guard Jarrett Calhoun made a 2-point jumper at 24 seconds followed by a 3-pointer from the left side at 15 seconds and suddenly the Badgers where down by just three points at 74-71.

Calhoun would answer three Magician free throws with four consecutive freebies of his own over the next eight seconds to make it a 77-75 game with seven seconds on the clock. LOC threw the ball away on the in-bounds play following Calhoun's final free throw, but SHC could not find an open shot as time expired before the Badgers could attempt a last shot.

Calhoun scored a Badger season-high 28 points behind an impressive 18-19 (.947) performance at the free throw line while freshman guard Sawyer Glick added 21 points and sophomore Walter Massey contributed 11 points. SHC shot 40.8% (20-49) on the night including 33.3% (6-18) from 3-point distance. Spring Hill took a slim 34-33 victory in rebounding, but lost 13 turnovers to six steals by the Magicians who converted the fumbles into 15 points.

Four Magicians would reach double digits in scoring led by Rashawn Brown with 17 points followed by Larry McGaughey with 15 along with Jerry Hampton and Demba Konate with 10 points each. LOC lost 14 turnovers to five Badger steals as SHC benefited from 16 points off turnovers. The visitors from Memphis, Tenn., shot 43.8% (21-48) from the field including 44.4% (8-18) in 3-point attempts.

The Badgers (7-17, 6-10 SIAC West) will host the Central State University Marauders (9-13, 7-8 SIAC West) on Thursday beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
