Box Score MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team evened their conference record at 6-6 on the year with a 74-67 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) road victory over the LeMoyne-Owen College (LOC) Magicians at Bruce-Johnson Hall on Monday night.
The Badgers maintained a 40-35 advantage over the Magicians (9-12, 6-6 SIAC West) at halftime. SHC then built out as much as a 10-point lead with 1:34 to go while holding off a barrage of last-ditch LOC 3-point attempts over the final minute of play.
Spring Hill shot a healthy 50% (27-54) from the floor including 47.6% (10-21) from 3-point range while the Magicians shot 43.3% (26-60) overall, but just 27.8% (5-18) from behind the arc. The Badger dominated the boards by a 40-24 margin, but lost 15 turnovers off nine LOC steals that resulted in 21 points for the Magicians at the other end. LeMoyne-Owen lost seven turnovers to two Badger steals that ended in a sacrifice of just seven points to the visitors.
Senior guard
Jarrett Calhoun paced the Badgers with 15 points as five Springhillians reached double-digits in scoring.
Jack Morrissey added 14 points while
Walter Massey and
Sawyer Glick each had 11 and
Wesley Pietri contributed 10 points.
Chase Shellman led all rebounders with 11 boards.
For the Magicians, Johnnie McGhee had a game-high 17 points off the bench while Larry McGaughey added 16 and Demba Konate bucketed 15 points.
The Badgers (7-13, 6-6 SIAC West) will now travel to Wilberforce, Ohio, for an SIAC West matchup with the Central State University Marauders (6-10, 5-6 SIAC West) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Beacom/Lewis Gym.
