Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team used a team-record tying 15 3-point buckets to earn a second consecutive non-conference victory in an 83-67 road decision over the Shaw University Lady Bears on Thursday night at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
Both the Lady Bears (2-9) and the Badgers opened the night with a cold shooting touch as Shaw held a 2-0 lead off just two free throws after four minutes of play before freshman
Elise Reilly gave SHC a 3-2 lead with a long-range jumper at the 6:05 mark.
Reilly's bucket took the lid off the rims for both sides and SHC built a 16-11 lead off Reilly's fourth 3-point tally of the quarter just eight minutes into the game. Junior guard

Leah Washington went to the rim for three consecutive layups to stake the Badgers to a 20-11 lead at the end of the 1
st quarter.

Jennifer Clark and Hill dropped in back-to-back treys to open the 2
nd quarter as SHC was shooting 3-pointers at an 85% rate (6-7) for a 29-15 lead after 12 minutes of play. Shaw then rallied to cut their deficit down to 32-25 at 6:11, but Clark answered with another 3-pointer to stop the bleeding and reclaim a 35-25 Badger advantage before the 5-minute media timeout.
Stephanie Custodio of Shaw then found pay dirt with two layups out of the timeout to slice the lead down to 35-29, but SHC again found an answer with a Washington layup at 1:32 left in the half and yet another 3-pointer by junior
Johnta Hughes with 53 seconds remaining to reclaim a 40-29 cushion. Freshman
Daja Walker then joined the 3-point parade with a trey of her own with 5 seconds showing as the Badgers headed to halftime with a 43-30 margin and a stunning 81.8% (9-11) showing from beyond the arc.

rd period, Clark picked up where the Badgers left off by pumping through a 10
th 3-pointer to open the stanza and added an 11
th at the 7:41 mark as SHC raced out to a 53-30 lead at 7:09. Shaw refused to give in and scored the next nine points to whittle the Badger lead back down to 53-39 before the media timeout at 4:25. Washington found the range with a short jumper out of the timeout to interrupt the run by Shaw, but Bianca Maxwell completed two layups for Shaw as the Lady Bears crept back to within 55-44 at 3:12.
Consecutive Washington and Hill lay-ins restored a 59-44 SHC cushion as Spring Hill carried a 61-47 lead into the final 10 minutes of play. Washington and Walker immediately expanded the lead to 65-47 with back-to-back buckets in the paint and Washington connected for the 12
th Badger 3-pointer at the 8:47 mark.
Shaw continued to battle back and once again pulled to within 70-58, but this time Reilly provided the answer with a 13
th 3-point basket at 5:11 to rebuild a 15-point difference. Hughes added a 14
th Badger trey at 4:13 and Reilly added the record-tying 15
th 3-pointer at 2:08.
Reilly paced the Badgers with a 22-point performance including six 3-pointers while Washington added 19 points, Clark had 12 and Hill contributed 10 points. Hughes hauled down 10 rebounds as SHC dominated the boards 33-22. Spring Hill ended the night shooting 53.4% (31-58) overall and a stellar 68.2% (15-22) from 3-point distance, but suffered 24 turnovers to just eight steals by the Lady Bears.
Shaw was and even 50% (21-42) from the field with a 54.5% (6-11) from long distance, but lost 23 turnovers to a season-high 16 steals by the Badger defense. Imani Heggins led the Lady Bears with 17 points as four Shaw players reached double-digits in scoring including Maxwell with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The previous 15 3-point outburst by a Spring Hill women's team came at Dillard University in 2003.
Spring Hill (4-4) will next visit High Point, N.C., to play an exhibition game versus the High Point University Panthers (1-7) on Saturday at 2 p.m. (EDT) at the Millis Center.
