Argonauts scuttle Badgers, 86-75
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team suffered an 86-75 non-conference home loss to the University of West Florida (UWF) Argonauts at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Monday night extending their season-opening losing streak to nine games.
 
The Argonauts (5-0) held a 43-24 cushion at halftime and led by as much as 24 points at 51-29 with 16:25 left in the 2nd half. SHC launched a late rally to slice the deficit down to 82-69 with a minute to go and Jack Morrissey drained a 3-point bucket with 10 seconds left, but it was not enough to prevent a final victory for the visitors from Pensacola.
 
Spring Hill sophomore guard Raphael Jones scored 20 points to pace the Badgers and Shawn Moore put in 13 points as Walter Massey and William Loyd each contributed 10 points. SHC won the rebounding battle 37 to 34, but lost 12 turnovers to five steals by the Argonauts. The Badgers made 41.3% (26-63) of their shots from the field including 42.9% (9-21) of their attempts from 3-point distance.
 
West Florida saw Deangelo Legrier connect for 23 points off an 8-for-10 shooting performance while Rashaan Benson threw in 21 points and seven assists. Jason Laatsch added another 11 points as the Argonauts hit 47.5% (29-61) from the floor, but suffered a 7.7% (1-13) night from long distance and fumbled away eight turnovers to three Badger steals.
 
The game was featured 59 total free throw attempts as West Florida put 27 of their 36 charity attempts in the basket for 75% and SHC made 14 of their 23 attempts for a 60.9% effort.
 
The Badgers (0-9) will take the next week off for final exams before returning to action on Saturday, December 10, at 7 p.m. for a non-conference game versus cross-town rivals the University of Mobile Rams (4-2) at H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium.
