Cold shooting second half leads to Badger ladies stumble at UWF, 81-51
Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – A cold-shooting 3rd quarter resulted in an 81-51 non-conference road loss for the Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team at the hand of the University of West Florida (UWF) Lady Argos on Tuesday evening at the UWF Field House.

The Badgers and the Lady Argos (4-0) both played tough interior defense in the early stages by shutting down passing lanes and forcing outside jump shots from the offenses resulting in a 2-2 score after just three minutes of play. Senior forward Alishia DraytonLewis and freshman guard Elise Reilly broke the deadlock with back-to-back slashing layup drives to put SHC ahead 6-2 with five minutes left in the 1st quarter.

Things heated up later in the quarter as UWF used a pair of free throws and two fast break layups to grab a 10-8 advantage. With 1:45 left in the first period UWF held a 14-10 cushion that Drayton-Lewis cut to 14-12 after accepting a nifty entry pass by junior guard Jennifer Clark.

UWF lead 17-14 early in the 2nd quarter and grew the lead to 19-14 with an open jumper from the right side by Katie Bobos at the 8 minute mark. Reilly kept the Badgers close with a layup off a drive down the center of the lane and a 3-pointer from the top of the key to make it a 25-23 Argo spread at 2:15. Three free throws rebuilt a 28-23 UWF lead with a minute on the clock, but Brittney Davis completed a hoop-and-the-harm 3-point play to slice the deficit to 28-26. Alex Coyne dropped in 3-point bucket just before the intermission as UWF carried a 31-26 separation into the halftime.

A deep UWF trey at 7:30 put SHC into a 36-26 hole coming out of the break and by the first media time out of the quarter the Badgers were down 40-28 and shooting just 29.3% (12-41) from the floor including 11.1% (1-9) from behind the 3-point line.

By the 8:10 mark of the 4th quarter UWF held a 57-35 advantage and built out as much as a 26-point lead with five minutes left in the game.

Jewel Hill led SHC with 10 points as Spring Hill shot 29.7% (19-64) from the field and just 11.8% (2-17) from 3-point range while suffering 13 turnovers to seven steals by UWF.

Courtney Meyer paced the Argos with 16 points while Bobos added 12, Toni Brewer contributed 10 points, and Coyne had 14 points. UWF drained 47.5% (28-59) of their shots from the field and 53.8% (7-13) of their 3-point attempts while out-rebounding SHC 50 to 32 under the boards.

Spring Hill (2-2) will now take a two-week break for the Thanksgiving holiday and final exams before hosting Jesuit rival the Loyola University Wolf Pack (4-1) on Friday, December 9, at 5:30 p.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
