Wolf Pack runs down Badgers, 70-69
Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team suffered a 70-69 non-conference home loss to historic Jesuit rival the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack on Thursday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
 
The Wolf Pack (4-2) trailed the Badgers 31-30 at the intermission and by as much as 10 points at 11:38 after junior Jack Morrissey connected on a 3-pointer from the left side to make it a 52-42 Badger advantage.
 
Loyola clawed back late in the contest, but SHC still led by three at 68-65 with just under two minutes to play. Ethan Turner of Loyola tied the game at 68-68 with a 3-pointer from the top of the key at 1:40, but Walter Massey of the Badgers connected on one-of-two free throws on the other end with 13.2 seconds remaining to stake SHC to a slim 69-68 lead. Jalen Gray then provided the game-winning points for the Wolf Pack with a successful driving layup with 3.1 seconds showing as Turner came down with a stolen in-bounds pass at midcourt to seal the victory.
 
Massey led all SHC scorers with 18 points and nine rebounds while Morrissey added 17 points. SHC shot 43.3% (26-60) from the field and 40% (6-15) from 3-point land, but made just 61.1% (11-18) of their free throws. The Badgers also hurt themselves with 18 turnovers against nine Loyola steals as the Wolf Pack lost 15 turnovers to just two Badger steals. Loyola also outscored Spring Hill 18-8 off those turnovers.
 
Gray pitched in 19 points for the visitors from New Orleans while Turner had 11 points. Loyola shot 44.4% (24-54) overall and 41.2% (7-17) from 3-point range while knocking down 88.2% (15-17) of their free throws.
 
The Badgers (0-4) will next visit Livingston, Ala., on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. as they challenge the University of West Alabama Tigers (1-1) to a non-conference game in Pruitt Hall.
