Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team rallied to erase a 17-point deficit, but still lost a 55-51 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division contest versus the Stillman College Lady Tigers at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Tigers (6-9, 3-5 SIAC West) held the Badgers to just 15.4% (4-26) shooting in the first half as the visitors from Tuscaloosa built a 28-13 advantage at the intermission.
One minute into the 3rd period Stillman expanded the lead to 30-13 off a layup by Jocyln Ramos, but Spring Hill began to chip away at the lead, cutting it down to 10-points at 40-30 when junior center
Leah Washington drained just her second 3-point bucket of the year with 20 seconds left in the period. Sophomore guard
Jennifer Clark ignited the Badger bench with a 3-pointer from the left side at the quarter-ending buzzer to make it a 42-33 game.
In the final 10 minutes, Spring Hill launched a furious rally to grab their first lead since the first minute of play when Clark knocked down another trey to make it 49-48 with 2:13 to play. Washington would make it a 51-48 Badger bulge with a layup at 1:38, but Stillman's Schenia Battle connected on consecutive layups with 1:19 and 46 seconds remaining to give the Lady Tigers back a lead they would not surrender again as Raven Chislom would convert two free throws with two seconds left. The Badgers failed to inbound the ball on their final procession and Schenia iced the game with a final free throw with 1 second on the clock.
Washington led the Badgers with a double-double performance consisting of 10 points and 13 rebounds while sophomore guard
Jewel Hill added 10 points. SHC shot 31.7% (19-60) for the game including 26.3% (5-19) from 3-point range. The Badgers earned a 50-36 advantage in rebounding, but lost 25 turnovers to 14 steals by Stillman.
Battle led all scorers with 12 points and Victoria Douglas came off the bench to contribute 10 points to the Lady Tiger scoresheet. Stillman shot 37.3% (22-59) overall and was 20% (1-5) from 3-point distance. Stillman lost 18 turnovers to 11 Spring Hill steals, but outscored the Badgers 23-10 in points off turnovers and 32-26 in the paint.
