Spring Hill men push past Clark Atlanta, 73-64
Box Score ATLANTA, Ga. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team earned a 73-64 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) road victory over the Clark Atlanta University Panthers on Monday night at Epps Gymnasium.

SHC took an early 6-2 lead on the Panthers (4-12, 2-5 SIAC East) and maintained a 10-9 edge with five minutes gone in the game. CAU took their first lead of the contest at 14-12 at 13:53, but SHC freshman Chase Shellman tied the game at 14-14 just seconds later off a jumper with a Walter Massey assist.

The Badgers rebuilt a 21-16 advantage with 7:31 to go until halftime and expanded the bulge to 37-26 with just 1:15 until intermission as the Badger guards began to find their ranges from the outside.

Coming back to the court from halftime, SHC held a 40-29 lead, but the Panthers crept back to within 47-41 at 14:47 off a 3-pointer by Tim Sanders. Sanders then brought the Panthers to within 54-53 with a layup at 10:35, but two 3-pointers by Badger Jack Morrissey sandwiched around a free throw by guard Wesley Pietri stopped the bleeding as SHC reclaimed a 10-point lead at 7:17.

By the two minute mark, SHC maintained a 68-60 lead and Pietri provided a 3-point dagger at 1:01 to make it a 71-60 cushion.

Leading scorers for the night included Morrissey with 19 as Shellman had 16 and Jarrett Calhoun added 11 for Spring Hill. Sanders scored 17 while Devante Harvey scored 14 with for the Panthers. Lawrance Freeeman of CAU led all rebounders with 10 boards.

Spring Hill shot a solid 44.8% (26-58) from the floor including 41.2% (7-17) from 3-point range while the Panthers managed a 33.8% (22-65) effort with a 30% (6-20) success rate from long distance. CAU won the battle for rebounds by a narrow 44-43 margin while the Badgers lost 16 turnovers off 11 CAU steals and the Panthers lost eight fumbles to five SHC takeaways.

The Badgers (5-10, 4-4 SIAC West) will wrap up their current two-week, four-game road swing on Thursday when they return to Atlanta to face the Morehouse College Maroon Tiger (7-5, 3-4 SIAC East) in a conference match at 7 p.m. (Eastern) at Forbes Arena.
