Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team lost a tough 63-60 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) road decision to the Claflin University Panthers on Saturday evening at Tullis Arena.
Spring Hill held a 19-15 lead over the Panthers (8-9, 3-5 SIAC East) with 8:01 to go in the first half, but the teams would take a 31-31 tie into halftime.
The Panthers would build out a 4-point lead late in the second half and hit just enough free throws to hold off a Badger charge over the last few seconds of play.
Spring Hill shot a 38.5% (20-52) overall and was 35.3% (6-17) from 3-point range, but lost 18 turnovers against 15 Claflin steals as both teams recorded 41 rebounds. Sophomore
Walter Massey tallied a game-high 19 points for the Badgers.
The Panthers were paced by Karee Watson with 15 points while Austin Lawton hauled down 11 rebounds. Claflin shot 36.5% (23-63) from the field and just 16.7% (4-24) from 3-point distance while suffering just six turnovers with one Badger steal to outscore SHC 28-14 in points off turnovers.
The Badgers (4-10, 3-4 SIAC West) next travel to Atlanta, Ga., on Monday to face the Clark Atlanta University Panthers (3-11, 1-4 SIAC East) in a conference match at 8 p.m. (Eastern) at Epps Gymnasium.
