Box Score 2 GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team swept its two games on the open day of the annual Gulf Coast Invitational held at the SportsPlex on Friday by taking an 8-2 victory in the opener over Lindsey Wilson College and then shutting out Benedictine University at Springfield (Ill.) in a 4-0 decision.
The first game saw Badger starter move to 9-2 on the year in a complete game victory with three hits allowed, two walks and 11 strikeouts despite surrendering back-to-back solo homers to left by the Blue Raiders in the top of the 1st inning.
Spring Hill rallied to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the 1st frame and then iced the game with a five-run 5th inning.
In the evening contest, SHC freshman starter
Kimberly Small (3-1) add a complete-game victory to her resume with just three hits allowed, three walks and five strikeouts.
Catcher
Samantha Leach had three hits and three RBIs on the day while senior shortstop
Shea Blanchard collected three hits and two RBIs and sophomore centerfielder
Jenna Charnock added three safeties to the SHC totals.
Spring Hill (12-3) continues play in the Gulf Coast Invitational on Saturday versus Georgia Gwinnett College at 8 a.m.
