Badger softball sweeps DH from Miles
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Spring Hill College (SHC) softball team finished a three-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) series sweep of the Miles College Lady Bears by winning both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday by the scores of 6-2 and 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at Murray Field.

The Badgers took a 2-0 lead over the Lady Bears (5-23, 4-9 SIAC) in the 4th inning of the first game when two runs scored off an infield error by Miles. SHC then tacked on two more runs in the 5th inning with back-to-back run-scoring doubles by left fielder Lauren Stewart and third baseman Emma Kittrell.

Miles responded with two runs in the 6th inning off an RBI-single by pitcher Talana Brown and a sacrifice fly by outfielder Ashlee Alexander.

SHC sophomore designated player Mary Beth Glass then put a two-run home run over the right field fence in the bottom of the 6th inning to close out the 6-2 victory.

Badger starter Caroline Sagrera improved to 19-5 with a six inning outing, giving up just two hits with a walk and nine strikeouts. Brown took the loss in four innings of work with eight hits, a walk and a strikeout.

In the nightcap, Sarah Bolotte improved to 4-0 on the year with four innings in the circle allowing just two hits with no walks and three strikeouts as the Badger won 9-0 in five innings. Karla Kennedy took the loss and lasted just two outs with four hits, a walk and no strikeouts while Kendreuna McPherson finished the final 3.1 innings with five hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

On offense, SHC was paced by freshman second baseman Carmen Byrd with six hits and two RBIs, Glass and Stewart with four hits and two RBIs each, and catcher Samantha Leach with three hits and two runs driven-in. First baseman senior Elsie deBruler also added three hits and an RBI.

Spring Hill (26-6, 13-0 SIAC) will host the Lady Argos (10-22) of the University of West Florida in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. at Murray Field.
