Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) women's basketball team earned a 60-46 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division home victory over the Tuskegee University Tigerettes on Thursday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
Tuskegee (2-17, 2-10 SIAC West) trailed 27-24 at halftime despite a spectacular ¾ court buzzer beater by Staceyanna Murrell.
In the 2nd half the Badgers built out as much as an 11-point lead with 6:15 to play, but the Tigerettes rallied to make it a 5-point game at 49-45 with 4:38 on the clock. SHC responded with a 9-point run sparked by a 3-pointer by senior guard
Elissa VandeWaa to rebuild a 58-44 advantage with 2 minutes to play.
Spring Hill was led by sophomore forward
Alishia Drayton's 15 points and team season-high 16 rebounds while sophomore center
Leah Washington added 11 points and four blocked shots. The Badgers shot 39.6% (21-53) from the floor and 25% (4-16) from 3-point land while also dominating the boards by a 47-30 margin. Turnovers were still a problem for the home team as they fumbled the ball away 23 times against 10 steals by the Tigerettes.
Tuskegee's Antionette Brown had 10 points and eight rebounds as the Tigerettes shot 35.1% (20-57) overall and just 18.2% (2-11) from beyond the arc. Tuskegee lost 21 turnovers to eight Badger steals.
The Badgers (10-10, 7-5 SIAC West) return to home action on Saturday when they host the Lady Tigers of Stillman College (6-14, 6-6 SIAC West) in a 2 p.m. contest at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
