Box Score The Spring Hill College (SHC) men's basketball team ended its first season as an NCAA Division II member with a heartbreaking 64-60 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) loss to the Lane College Dragons on Monday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Dragons (14-11, 13-6 SIAC West) held a slim 28-25 lead at the intermission after the Badgers had rallied from an early 6-0 deficit following turnovers on four of their first five possessions.
In the second half, Spring Hill fell down by as much as eight points at 45-37 with 12½ minutes to play, but the home team rallied to tie the game at 60-60 off a 3-point jumper by freshman guard
James Clarke with 42 second left on the clock. Terrance Bridgeman of Lane then drained a 3-pointer of his own from the right corner off an assist from the top of the key by Donald Stewart to make it a 63-60 game with 22 seconds remaining.
The Badgers then came down court and called a timeout. After a quick in-bound play to check the defense, SHC again called timeout to set for the final shot, but the cross court pass was tipped away by Bridgeman with 5 seconds left. Bridgeman would ice the game by hitting 1-of-2 free throws with 4 seconds left for the final score.
SHC shot 42.9% (21-49) overall and 50% (10-20) of their 3-point attempts, but lost 19 turnovers to 15 steals by the Dragons. Junior guard
Jarrett Calhoun led all scorers with 16 points while senior guard
